There's nothing like fresh
cider..!
|

|
Early in its history, Vermonters discovered that the climate in Vermont grew incredibly crisp and luscious apples, making cider that would rival any the world over. True to the time-honored heritage of Vermont pressing techniques, the
Cold Hollow Cider Mill
produces the freshest cider with an absolutely amazing taste.
The mill is one of the top three most visited attractions in the state, with over 300,000 people visiting each year. The enormous 8,000 square foot store is seen and smelled through the aroma of the mill’s specialty doughnut – a spicy, unfrosted delicacy, crunchy to the bite and sweet with the nectar of apples. |
It is also home to a vast assortment of apple products, from baked goods to hot spiced cider, cider syrup and pure, sugarless cider jelly.
The cider is blended from several apple varieties from Champlain
Valley, mainly MacIntosh, which are tree-picked and hand-selected, inspected, brushed and washed before pressing. The apples are pressed by the time-proven rack and cloth method which, though labor intensive, produces the best juice.

About the Green Mountain Visitor Center and Café
Waterbury's historic train station was restored in 2006 to all of its early-20th century glory. It now serves as a cutting-edge visitor center with interactive, multi-sensory displays, a café, and a community room. The restored building also continues to function as an Amtrak stop for the train that runs from St. Albans to Washington, D.C.
The recreated baggage building serves as a waiting area for Amtrak passengers as well as a community room where visitors can learn about the station restoration and Waterbury's history. An interactive display in this room depicts the devastating flood of 1927.
The adjoining exhibit space is a multi-sensory depiction of a coffee bean's long journey from tree to cup. After a self-guided tour, visitors can sample coffees from around the world in the Green Mountain Coffee Café.
Rainbow Sweets Bakery
Marshfield, VT -- Google Rainbow Sweets Bakery on the web and you'll wonder why it's taken you so long to discover this tiny gourmet cafe. Accolades abound for the fabulous handmade European pastries -- Linzertorte, Engadiner Nusstorte, Quadruple Chocolate Chip Torte, Tarte aux Fraises, Chocolate Cherry Almond Torte and the most popular, St. Honore pastry or Johnny Depp on a Plate, two must-eat-with-fingers-by-order-of-the-chef profiteroles filled with homemade custard, dipped in caramel, then dressed with whipped cream. Oh my!
Rainbow Sweets Bakery was started in 1976 at its present location by husband and wife chef-owners Trish Halloran and Bill Tecosky, in Marshfield Village on Route 2, previously an old inn from the 1840s. The cafe' has been featured in the New York Times, Gourmet and Yankee Magazine.
Reviews never fail to mention that Chef Bill Tecosky's banter is half the fun of going there. With theatrical flair, and a No Talking! admonition, he recites the savory specialties of the house: Authentic Spanakopita — Greek spinach filo pie; Bastilla — Moroccan chicken, cinnamon, saffron, almonds in filo; Empanada — Argentine beef pie; Brioche — filled with spinach, Cabot cheddar and walnuts; fresh mozzarella, smoked salmon, prosciutto di Parma, and muffaletta sandwiches on their own Italian bread, with a Greek Salad or Salade Nicoise.
Customers from all over the world come to eat, drink, talk, listen and view the collection of art and photography. Denizens include world-renowned writers, poets, artists, actors, craftspeople, farmers, teachers and philosophers. During mud-season, when the cafe is closed, Bill and Trish travel the world, tasting pastries and ethnic delicacies to keep their pastry credibility. As Tecosky reasons, You can't make good pastry unless you know what good pastry tastes like.
